A Christmas Enthusiasts Prayer

As I untangle strings of Christmas lights, Lord help me to remember that I do this first to honor You. Never let me get so prideful of my display that I fail to see the wonders in the eyes of a child or the joy on the faces of those who are still children at heart. Never let me forget that my total effort is to make Christmas memories, bring cheer and to slow down the pace of a hectic season, if only for a moment, and focus on the true meaning of Christmas. And Lord, someday when I meet you face to face, I pray that I may hear you say:

“When you made My people smile, you made Me smile.”

Amen

When I first envisioned having a synchronized Christmas lights show I had no idea the breadth and depth of work that was required.  There was new software to learn, new equipment to buy/build and setup, and the time that it takes to synchronize the lights to the music; the lights are synchronized to each 1/100th of a second of music.  In the process I learned some valuable lessons about myself and from God.

There were indeed times that the effort seemed too long, too much; never-ending.  After many hours of building and programming it occurred to me that mine was a miniscule effort compared to the time Christ spent on the Cross for all mankind.  It was in this perspective that I continued to press on.  Reaffirmed and renewed, I continued the task knowing that my focus and hope would be on God and His Son and the glorification of a Savior who died for you and for me.

By ourselves we can do little; In Christ we can do all things.

And wouldn’t you know it; when your focus is on the Lord, time slips away, Love finds a way and the smiles begin as the lights come into view.  And the smiles of a child, young or old, is a wonder in and of itself.
